Flyback transformers, also known as "Line Output Transformers" (LOPT), are specialized transformers that generate high voltage signals at a relatively high frequency. Ferrite is commonly used as the core material in flyback transformers, which enables the high-frequency output.
The original purpose of flyback transformers was to control the horizontal movement of the electron beam in cathode ray tubes. Today, a lower-voltage type of flyback transformer is commonly used in DC/DC converters.
