Autotransformers
Autotransformers are electrical transformers with a single winding. The winding has at least three electrical connection points (called taps), which enable a fraction of the primary high voltage across a secondary load. Each tap may be configured to either step up or step down the load voltage. The voltage may also be adjusted by half the voltage-increment between taps.
